Our Learning - Pastoral Care

PASTORAL CARE

• The pastoral care of all members of our school community is  a shared responsibility and is both implied and explicit.

• It underlines how we organise our school, our positive relationship approach with each other, to more explicit approaches including a pastoral worker, financial assistance for families, and the Archbishop’s Samaritan Fund.

• We have a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support program, where expectations are explicitly taught and reinforced. Data collected informs the areas which require further social and emotional skills.

• Stella Maris provides the supporting role of a School Pastoral Worker / Chaplain. Working together with families we offer a welcoming place to talk to and support children who may be experiencing family changes, anxieties or perhaps the death of a loved one.

• Mrs Heather Jones has been a staff member for several years at Stella Maris and has been working as our Chaplain in more recernt years. Heather also has a qualification as a trained counsellor.

• To complement this role we also run several programs, one being Seasons for Growth / Grief & Loss as well as social skills groups.
